Piston Pumps Available

What a find - a 6" x 10" - pumps this size are becoming quite rare, but thankfully, we have started this one on its way back to her former glory days or teenage years! What a difference a coat of undercoat makes to rusty steel!

This pump is actually one of twins!! Yes, she has a sister as well - see below for more information!!

This old piston pump is in amazing condition - in fact, it is virtually NEW!!! We have been assured by two separate, reliable sources that many years ago, this pump was one of two purchased at the same time (approximately 1950s). Prior to the extension of the reticulated water supply to the factory, the Bega Cheese Factory had to pump its own water. To ensure continuity of supply, the factory purchased two of these grand old dames. It actually used only one of them before the reticulated supply became available. Eventually, approximately forty years ago (early 1970s), both pumps were sold at public auction and, thankfully, both were saved from the scrappy. The other sister is regularly shown at various venues around the Bega area by its current owner. He alerted us to this one. This one was taken to her new home after the auction, unloaded under a tree and sat there until mid June 2011 when we picked her up. We have left her with the sandblaster as the first step in her total makeover - we expect this lady will become our pin-up girl in due course. Being virtually unused, you realise that everything about her is in pristine condition in terms of the gear box, bearings etc. We will give her new buckets, valves etc and restore her to original condition.

Should you know of anyone looking for such a magnificent piece of equipment, please contact us.

Dimension wise, this pump stands 1500 mm to the top of the air chamber and 900 mm at the top of the gear box. Overall, it is 2200 mm long. The pulley will accommodate six v-belts and is 950 mm in diameter. The width of the pump, including the pulley and shaft is 1050 mm. The bullgear diameter is approx 600 mm. The brass shaft is 50 mm and the pinion shaft is approx 55 mm. Its actual weight is unknown, but estimated by the crane truck driver who retrieved it to be in excess of 1 tonne!!
